AMBASSADOR ALANA SMITH STRUTS THE STREETS

Story

Strutter Catergory: Kaftan Queens

Why Strut? To me, education has enabled me the freedom to choose the path I want and to pursue my own future. As a passionate sports fan, I made the choice to study communications at university so I could stand amongst the action, reporting live sport from around the world.

I’ve been involved with AIME for the past year through FOXTEL, and am a proud AIME partner. On 7 December, I’ll proudly Strut the Streets as a mark of my belief that every Australian child should have the freedom to choose their future.

A bit about Alana: Alana Smith is a Presenter with Fox Sports News having joined the channel as a News Active reporter in 2006.

During her time at Fox Sports Alana has reported on a host of live sporting events and covers breaking news on a daily basis. She hosted the channel's first ever sideline bulletins from the 2011 Super Rugby Final between the Reds and Crusaders, and in the same year also produced and presented elements of Fox Sports coverage of the Rugby World Cup. In 2012 Alana contributed feature stories to magazine show The Rugby Club

In addition to her work at Fox Sports, Alana can be heard on Triple M radio’s The Rush Hour and was a guest host in 2012 of The Ruck Show. She has also worked as an MC for the Wallabies, Sydney Sixers and Waratahs, and is a Media ambassador for the SCG/Allianz Stadium.

A passionate sports fan, Alana has the game of rugby in her blood - her father Greg Smith was the first professional coach of the Wallabies.

Alana is strutting to show the world that she is willing to do whatever it takes, to go to any lengths, to see the day when Indigenous kids finish school at the same rate as every Australian child.

AIME - Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience

AIME works around Australia providing mentoring and educational services.

AIME engages over 2,000 Indigenous high school students and 1,000 university students across Australia. Our workforce is over 1000 volunteer university students from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Our goal is for all of our students to complete school and progress to university at the same rate as all Australians. For students not progressing to university we target 100% transition to further study or employment. In 2013 AIME engaged over 2,000 Indigenous high school students and 1,000 university students across Australia and our goal is to reach 10,000 by 2018.
AIME has proven to dramatically improve the chances of Indigenous kids finishing school. Our current group of year 11 students progressed from year 10 to year 11 at a higher rate than their non-Indigenous peers! Together with our Mentors and Mentees, AIME is building a generation of future leaders who strive to create a culture where for every step you take forward in life, you throw your hand back and bring someone with you.

Connect with AIME on Facebook, TwitterYouTube and the AIME Website.
